Conscious Contact Newsletter - Edition No. 5
Hey hey Kiddos
News and News! I’ve been struggling with the idea of staying away from social media, as it’s hard to be part of the problem and complain about the problem... I know I talked a few months ago about a deep dive into all platforms... but I’ve been hesitant, there is an argument for not engaging so much... I’m grateful that as a kid, I had no idea about the personal lives of my music hero’s… short of Rolling Stone interviews. Beyond music, I’m also feeling like if ever there was a time to get uber political... it’s now… on a number of issues that I’ve been quiet, Trump/Biden… it’s like food or a poisonous bowl of shit… sure you may not like everything on the plate… but... you hate the broccoli so bad you’re gonna eat the shit? One would hope not… spare me the “but Biden……” or eat the shit and shut the fuck up (with love of course), not making a choice, in my mind is just as reprehensible as the shit bowl… go ahead, fire away! (Miss me?)
Also… I wanted to thank everybody for weighing in on the “Get to Know Jerry Joseph” (as of this writing, Volume 1) CD… Now it’s a two-disc idea... one disc Hard, one disc Soft… choosing from any records of my career. They must be studio versions... no live tracks... it’s all in play, Stockholm Syndrome, Little Women, Panther Tracks, JMOs, solo… there’s still time to send in your ideas... it’s been really cool to watch... tho, judging from most lists, one would think I hadn’t made a record since Conscious Contact! Kinda funny… as my hope is to drop 10 new records in the next couple years... time is not on my side…
There are a lot of conversations about how Covid changed the music industry, particularly (for me) in the fact that for smaller touring acts, the venues simply don’t want to guarantee money... Obviously we have friends that are exceptions… sadly, venues have come to believe it’s the artist’s job... to take all the risk (like percentages of the door) and be responsible for the lion's share of promotion… maybe when I was 22 those dice were worth rolling (or even now… I’d risk Japan, India, Africa... anything different and cool...). Please know, we’ve been strategizing as to how to return to all our domestic markets, and hope to see you soon… In the past... one way to make up for your losses, was to stay out longer... however another covid reality… forced us (me) to weigh touring against being home with family... My kids and grandkids are still young and like I said, time is so short...
In this spirit, I’m looking at a lot of options, perhaps an updated Happy Book idea, where I/we can film an episode from any location, i.e.... come to Denver for live shows... but be able to shoot an online show whilst there... with local musicians and local... color? I welcome any ideas along that line... one thing I do know… I’m blessed to have smart and engaged fans... your opinions matter a lot… and as always... your support has simply been the reason this music has continued... so... see ya at the show… vote early, vote often :-) … just please god… vote...
